LEAGUES TITLES AND 1 RUNNER-UP
As the 2011 Lothian Leagues came to an exciting conclusion, we ended up winning two of the Leagues and finished 2nd in another. The morning session saw some great swims from a number of swimmers - Eilidh and Ben had excellent PBs in the 200m free, Gigi and Sophie had good improvements in the 100m IM, Robin had a great swim in the 50m back (4.5 sec PB), Zoe took another 2.8 sec off her 50m fly best time and both Emma and Thomas improved their 50m breast time. The 10/11 girls team finished 5th in their league, out of 14 teams. With three of the team only being 10, they should look forward to next year with some excitement.
In the afternoon we were contesting three leagues, resulting in both of our 14+ teams winning
their league (repeating the double success of 2008). The boys league was a very close battle with Livingston Dolphins. We started the day one point ahead, but lost three points in the first two events. However, a double mac attack (from John and Scott) saw us winning the three 100m events and then a great relay led out by Benji and brought home by Rory M saw the boys retaining the League trophy. The 14+ girls team had suffered the loss of two regular members (Fi + Louise) but with the help of Kathryn and Anna they held their lead to lift the trophy. A first from Iona in the IM, two seconds from Laura in the back and fly and a creditable third in the relay gave us the points we needed.
The 12/13 girls started the day in third place, 10 points behind second placed Warrender.
However, with some beautifully timed swims they cut away at that points gap with Nieve (200m free),
Michelle (100m back) and Anna (100m breast) all winning their events and the team winning the relay
by over three secs (with Ellie swimming the fastest leg in 31.04). So we took home lots of medals and two
lovely trophies for the cabinet at the Swim Centre.
